Wheel Alignment

Wheels are the contact point of a vehicle to the road and helps the driver to have a sense of control over the maneuverability of the vehicle. They are designed to support the weight of the vehicle, absorb road shocks, transmit traction, torque and braking forces to the road surface and maintain and change the direction of travel. The alignment of the wheel affects the car suspension and an incorrect wheel alignment can get out of hand and affect the other parts of the vehicle.

So what is wheel alignment?

Wheel alignment refers to the adjustment of the car’s suspension in order to achieve a suitable angle at which the tyres make contact with the road. As experts in this field, we recommend car alignment be checked at least 10000kms once.

With over five decades of manufacturing experience, ATS ELGI has one of the widest and most perfected range of Wheel Service Equipment equipped for aligning, balancing, changing, mounting, inflating, bead seating & vehicle fitness testing. These products deliver thorough and accurate results to ensure maximum safety on the road.

Causes of wheels falling out of alignment

  • A sudden impact on the road
  • Driving through a pothole at high speed
  • Minor collisions
  • Sudden manoeuvres

How do you know wheels are misaligned and why they need to be fixed as early as possible?

The angle of our wheels can become skewed over time causing various changes to our driving experience giving the following warnings

  • It will be hard to keep the car straight-line even while cruising at low speed; the car’s steering wheel would unintendedly keep running towards one side of the road
  • Steering wheel vibrates
  • If there are any uneven tread wear

If the above warnings are ignored, the vehicle will give a poor mileage, any other instance of damage repair and early tire replacement.

Benefits of doing wheel alignment

Ensuring that the car has the correct wheel alignment has a range of benefits to both the driver and the vehicle

Fuel Efficiency – When the vehicle isn’t aligned correctly, the wheels aren’t working together the way that they should. Because of this, the vehicle’s engine has to work a lot harder to propel forward, and this reduces the car’s fuel efficiency.

Prevents Expensive Auto Repairs – Driving with a bad alignment causes the parts of the car to wear unevenly and prematurely. Each time the car hits a pothole or bump in the road, the steering and suspension systems take a hit. When the tires aren’t evenly helping with the impact, certain areas of these systems take the hit harder than others, causing them to break down sooner than they should. If they break down completely, an expensive auto repair service cannot be avoided.

Smooth Driving – When the car’s wheel alignment is off, it can be noticed that the automobile drifts slightly to the right or left even though our steering wheel is aimed straight ahead. Constantly adjusting the steering to overcompensate for bad alignment is tiring, inefficient, distracting and dangerous during travel.

Increase the life of the Tires- Tires are an expensive and important auto part that wear much more quickly when not subjected to regular wheel alignments.

ATS ELGI provides Wheel Alignment Equipment that can quickly and accurately measure the car’s wheel alignment and helps in setting back to within the manufacturers recommended guidelines. A vast majority of the workshops in India have ATS ELGI Wheel Alignment Equipment that are frequently updated to ensure there is access to the latest settings for new vehicles and updated models.
